Jim Ricken's Foot Formula #1 has been a staple in the horse industry for over 50 years.The late Jim Ricken was a respected corrective farrier and racehorse trainer who developed these specialized horse therapy techniques alongside his wife, Sallie. His formulas are primarily used to treat the sole and frog of a horse's feet for conditions such as:
- Thrush
- Puncture wounds and abscesses.
- Bruises and tender or "burning" feet.
- Soreness relief, particularly on the day of a race or heavy work
General Application Steps
Clean the Hoof: Start by picking up the hoof and thoroughly cleaning the sole and frog to remove all dirt and debris.
Apply Formula: Use the squeeze bottle or a brush to work the liquid into all grooves, crevices, and affected areas (sole and frog) where bacteria or fungus might reside.
- For Puncture Wounds, Thrush, Bruises, or Tender Feet:
- Apply twice a day for 5 consecutive days.
- Repeat the 5-day treatment cycle if necessary.
- For Soreness Relief (e.g., the day of a race or heavy work):
- Paint the formula on three times during the day of the work or race
- Key Ingredients: A proprietary blend including wormwood, thymol, acetone, iodine, phenol, menthol, and chloroxylenol, formulated with essential oils.
