The AFTC Hoof Patterns (often referred to as templates) are standardized sets used for examinations by the Farrier Trainers of Canada (AFTC). These templates represent the specific hoof sizes and shapes that candidates must match during their certification tests.

Level 1: Requires a portfolio featuring a front and hind trim for barefoot horses with precise measurements. Templates are used as a benchmark for these standards.

Level 2 (AFC): Includes a bar shoe practical test where candidates must present a shoe that fits a provided pattern or their own template.

Fit Specifications: During exams, shoes must typically fit the template from the widest point forward with a perimeter fit (tolerance of +/- 1/16th inch)

Farrier claim these are also great for learning to build shoes. They help to build consistency and figuring our your measurements for building shoes to size.
